Academy - Governance
The governance of the Academy rests with its Board and a Director, who is responsible for making recommendations to the Board and for carrying out the day-to-day arrangements. Appointments to the Academy Board are made by the IASSIDD Council, on the recommendation of the Academy's Director after consultation with the SIRG Co-ordinator.
Persons proposed for appointment to the Academy Board are recognized for their leadership in research and education and agree to commit the time to actively participate in the Academy's governance, strategic planning, curriculum development, and review processes.
Prof. Roy I. Brown served as the founding director of the IASSIDD Academy from its inception in 2006 until December 31, 2013. Prof. Brown is Professor Emeritus at the University of Calgary, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia, and as well as an Adjunct Professor at the School of Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria (British Columbia) and formerly at the University of New England, Australia. He was Foundation Professor and Dean of School of Special Education and Disability Studies at the Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. Through practice, research, writing, and teaching, he has developed programs in the field of disabilities. He has worked in several countries, including consulting to UNESCO in South East Asia. He is a leading author in the area of family quality of life and rehabilitation research.
The most recent Academy Board Meeting took place in Melbourne, Australia on August 18th, 2016.
The next in-person meeting will be held in Bangkok, November, 2017.
